In light of the floods that have impacted numerous residents, the Municipality has implemented a streamlined process to assist those in need of disposing of flood damaged household belongings.

Following the unprecedented rainfall on Friday, which caused the overflow of Murdoch Creek and Rand Creek and surcharged the Town's sanitary system, municipal staff worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents in affected areas.

As the day progresses, the Kirkland Lake community sees a positive shift in the water levels, offering hope and relief to affected areas. Presently, only one road remain closed: Allan Avenue south of fifth. Access to the Community Complex remains open, accessible via the intersection of Balsam and Calbeck.

Following the recent flooding in various areas of the Municipality, we are pleased to report that the situation has significantly improved. Throughout the night, the water levels at lift stations have subsided, allowing the system to effectively manage the flow.

Update #1 - The Town of Kirkland Lake is currently facing ongoing flooding and surcharging, with the number of affected residents steadily increasing. In response to this escalating situation, the Town has activated an Emergency Operations Center to effectively manage and coordinate relief efforts.

At 4:06 pm on Friday April 12, 2024, Stacy Wight, Mayor of the Town of Kirkland Lake, declared an emergency in accordance with the Emergency Management Act 2003, s.4(1) due to the following emergency: Flooding event resulting in the Town’s sanitary system surcharging due to the overflowing of Murdoch Creek.

The Council of The Corporation of the Town of Kirkland Lake provides notice that it intends to adopt the 2024 Operating, Capital and Water & Wastewater Budget (2024 Budget) at a Special Meeting being held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, beginning at 4:40 PM. By-Laws in connection with the 2024 Budget, as amended, will also be presented for passage.

The Town of Kirkland Lake is promoting its current Activity Coordinator, Kim Klockars, into the role of Director of Community Services. Kim has been an integral part of the Community Services team, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills, strategic vision, and a deep understanding of the Town’s values and goals.

The Council of The Corporation of the Town of Kirkland Lake will hold a Public Meeting on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 4:40 PM to receive comments from the business community related to the implementation of a Retail Business Holiday Exemption By-Law.

The Town of Kirkland Lake is pleased to announce the successful ratification of a new two-year Collective Agreement with the members of the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) Local 215.

At its Regular Council Meeting held on April 2, 2024, Council approved the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the members of International Association of Fire Fighters’ (IAFF) Local 573.

Council intends to dispose of surplus lands by way of negotiations/private sale in accordance with By-Law 09-064.

Following the Regular Council Meeting on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the Town of Kirkland Lake has embarked on a path to reevaluate its cultural landscape. Council has directed Administration to terminate the Lease Agreement with the Ontario Heritage Trust (OHT) for the Sir Harry Oakes Château, and to explore alternative methods for providing cultural services in the community.

The Council of The Corporation of the Town of Kirkland Lake will hold three (3) Public Meetings on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 4:40 PM, consecutively, to receive comments related to the proposed 2024 Town Budget, including Operating, Capital, Water & Wastewater; the proposed 2024 User Fees & Charges (implementation of a new fee or changes/increases to fees); and further increases to Municipal Water and Wastewater Rates.

It is with mixed emotions that the Town of Kirkland Lake shares the news of Clinton Johanson’s resignation from his position as Director of Development Services.

The Town of Kirkland Lake is embarking on an ambitious journey to redefine its economic and tourism landscape with the development of an Economic Development and Tourism Strategic Plan, and we need your help!

On Thursday, MPP John Vanthof was at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex to hear more about the $465,000 Community Building Fund Capital Grant from the Ontario government and administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant, awarded in late 2021, was used for upgrades to the arena, addressing a community need by upgrading ventilation and dehumidification units, replacing the rink’s boards and benches, and improving accessible access to the facility.

The Town of Kirkland Lake recently identified and corrected two clerical errors in the 2023 Q4 Operational Key Performance Indicators (O-KPIs) Report which was presented to Council at its February 6, 2024 Regular Meeting.

On February 6, 2024, Town Council approved a new Corporate Strategic Plan for 2024-2026 and beyond.

The Town of Kirkland Lake is preparing a new strategic plan that will drive the Town into the future and set forth the direction for the next three years. The Town has obtained Capital Park Consulting for assistance in the development of the new Strategic Plan.

The Council for the Corporation of the Town of Kirkland Lake has resolved to exit The Town of Kirkland Lake Solar Inc. Partnership/Corporation and divest itself of its shares in the Solar Project on Archer Drive.

The Recreation Department of the Town of Kirkland Lake has received a small grant from the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, through their Seniors Community Grant program. With these dollars, a program entitled Seniors in Motion, a concentrated 7-month effort, will offer programs and events to older adults, seniors, and multigenerational families.

Please be advised of regular hours of operation at the Kirkland Lake Landfill. This change will be effective Saturday April 1, 2023.

Residential property owners will be permitted to obtain 2 vouchers for 2022. Proof of property ownership must be presented to municipal staff in order to obtain your voucher.

There is a new by-law for regulating what type of off-road vehicles are permitted on Town streets. Now in addition to all-terrain vehicles, there can be multi-purpose off-highway utility vehicles and recreational off-highway vehicles.

The Strategic Plan for the Town of Kirkland Lake included completing a Service Delivery Review for the Museum of Northern History. This review was completed through funding received from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
