Province Announces Disaster Relief Funding for Kirkland Lake Residents Impacted by April's Flooding Event

DRAO Activation Area, Kirkland Lake 2024

The municipality is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has approved eligibility for Kirkland Lake residents, within a designated activation area, for the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) Program in response to the flooding that occurred on April 12, 2024.

The purpose of the DRAO Program is to return essential property to a basic level, make homes safe and habitable, and allow people to resume their livelihoods. Eligible applicants may receive assistance for emergency expenses and for repair or replacement of essential property if they do not have insurance; or, if their insurance is insufficient, to cover their essential costs according to the DRAO Program Guidelines. Homeowners and residential tenants, small owner-operated businesses/farms, and not-for-profit organizations may apply for assistance if they reside in the activation area.

“This is fantastic news for Kirkland Lake residents in the affected areas,” said Mayor Stacy Wight. “We encourage everyone that was impacted within the affected areas to review the Ministry’s website to determine their eligibility and take advantage of this opportunity.”

To view the funding application and to review eligibility criteria, you can access the full Program Guidelines available at  the Ministry’s DRAO webpage. Any questions about the activation or DRAO Program can be sent to the Ministry’s Program Staff via email to: [email protected], or by calling 1-877-822-0116.

Residents will have until October 15, 2024, to apply for assistance through the program.
