The Town of Kirkland Lake also offers other waste diversion initiatives such as: battery recycling, electronics recycling, tire recycling and scrap metal recycling. We also promote other waste diversion initiatives such as composting, grass cycling and the use of rain barrels.
Electronic Waste
Working with
RecycleYourElectronics.ca and Ontario Electronic Stewardship, the Town offers a free drop off for the safe disposal of recycling of end-of-life electronics at the municipal landfill, and at Physical Services building during spring and fall Clean-Up Weeks.
Battery Recycling
Partnering with the Raw Materials Company Inc., we are now offering drop-off locations for the recycling of batteries. Please note that acid filled batteries are not accepted (e.g. car batteries).
Tires
Through the Used Tire Program funded by the Ontario Tire Stewardship, the Town offers free drop-off at the landfill of used and unwanted tires.
Scrap Metal
Scrap metal consists of anything metal or mostly metallic. It can be recycled and/or reprocessed for other uses.
Once per year, the municipality puts out a request for proposal to purchase and haul away the scrap metal from the landfill site. For more information regarding the request for proposal, please contact the Department of Physical Services at 705-567-9365.
