PRESS RELEASE

TOWN OF KIRKLAND LAKE APPOINTS NEW CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

For Immediate Release – Wednesday, November 03, 2021
Kirkland Lake, ON

Mayor Pat Kiely and members of Kirkland Lake Town Council are pleased to announce the appointment of Alan Smith to the position of Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Kirkland Lake. Smith is currently the Chief Administrative Officer for the municipality of Masset in British Columbia. Prior to his appointment there, he had been Director of Economic Development for fourteen years for the County of Elgin in Southern Ontario.

A graduate of Simon Fraser University and the University of Guelph, Smith is no stranger to northern Ontario having worked for Greenstone and Schreiber earlier in his career.

“I am looking forward to joining with my colleagues on the Kirkland Lake senior management team and the balance of the Town staff to address the opportunities and challenges facing the Town.” said Smith.

Smith was chosen by Council following an extensive national search conducted over a two-month period led by a Committee of Council composed of Mayor Kiely and Councillors Owen and Shaba.

“We are confident that Alan will be an excellent addition to our staff, and I look forward to his arrival in the new year. In the interim, the senior management team will continue their much-appreciated role assisting Council with corporate wide issues” said Mayor Kiely.
