TKL News: Electronic Council Meetings

Hosting Electronic Meetings During COVID-19
Posted on 03/20/2020
The Municipal Act, 2001 is amended to provide that, during emergencies declared locally or provincially under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, should they choose to, members of councils, local boards and committees who participate electronically in open and closed meetings may be counted for purposes of quorum.

Municipalities wishing to use this new authority must amend their procedure by-laws to allow for electronic meetings and may do so through electronic participation.

The Town of Kirkland Lake amended its Procedural By-Law at the Emergency Meeting of Council on March 24, 2020 to allow for electronic participation during a declared emergency. Council will be hosting its meetings electronically until the declared emergency is over. Agendas will be posted to the website and email notification will be sent out as usual. We will be implementing our electronic meetings through Zoom and are uploading the meeting video to our YouTube channel. Our building is not open to the public at this time. Thank you for your patience and support and email clerk@tkl.ca if you have any questions.
